Practical Mathematics: Foundations, Problem Solving & Everyday Applications
A four-week live and recorded short course that rebuilds core mathematical confidence — numbers, algebra, geometry, data and financial reasoning — through everyday problem solving.
Course description
Practical Mathematics (MTH-SC-101) is an original IIOUP short course designed for learners who want dependable, working mathematics rather than abstract theory. Across four modules and twelve lessons, the course rebuilds arithmetic fluency, introduces algebraic thinking as a tool for describing real situations, develops measurement and geometric reasoning, and closes with data literacy and everyday financial mathematics. Every lesson pairs a clear explanation with worked examples and a short learning check, and each module ends with a ten-question quiz. A twenty-five question final assessment confirms overall mastery. Assessment: four module quizzes (40%) and one final assessment (60%), with an overall pass mark of 60%. Classes are delivered as scheduled online live sessions, and every session is recorded so learners in different time zones can study at their own pace.
